Space overview
The Substation’s unique industrial building and multi-artform spaces offer creatives the environment they need to bring their vision to life. Our flexible spaces accommodate a diverse range of artistic projects or special occasions – from gigs and performances, to exhibitions and celebrations.
On Level 2, overlooking the main space, is The Dance Studio. It is a small, well-lit, private studio suitable for smaller creative events, developments, dance, rehearsals, workshops and gatherings. It is an area designed for movement, featuring polished wooden floors and moveable mirrored walls. The studio spans approximately 80sqm. Equipped with basic AV equipment and a sound system, it supports a range of events. The Dance studio is a flexible space ideal for both individual practice and group sessions.
The Substation is conveniently located in Newport, Melbourne. The Substation is easily accessible via public transport, positioned just a 30 metre walk from Newport Train Station, and Newport bus stop. For drivers, there are car parks located at the front and rear of The Substation. Nearby, you’ll find a variety of cafes offering a selection of coffees, baked goods and brunch menus. If you’re visiting The Substation in the evening you have your choices of the classic Newport bowls club, or The Junction Hotel to grab a cold beverage before your event. In summer, the neighbouring suburbs Altona and Williamstown offer relaxed beaches and local fish and chip shops.
