Screen X Sound Commissions Launch
Celebrate the launch of nine new screen and sound works by young and emerging artists.
Each year Signal invites applications from young artists to produce new public art works for the Signal Screen and Sound Walk.
In 2021 Signal's Screen Commissions were awarded to Mohamed Chamas, Hudson Wallis Grant, Jenn Tran, Anne Wagner, and Yundi Wang.
Sound Commissions were awarded to Tash Atkins, Tyler Bain, Jess Healy and Kiera Varrese, Judah Johnson, and Anne Hsuyin.
This year's screen and sound works include a car-wash soundscape that echoes obsessive compulsive disorder, a queer retelling of Romeo and Juliet through classical and electronic music, and a journey beneath local waterways.
Commissioned artists received technical and creative support in weekly development workshops with lead artists Freya Pitt and Marco Cher-Gibard. Each young artist also receives one-on-one support from established artists and industry professionals. This year's screen artists were supported by Lichen Kemp, Katie Paine, Bianca Billy Raffin, Diego Ramirez and Aaron CV Rees. Sound artists were supported by Lisa Rae Bartolomei, Nina Buchanan, Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey, Martin Kay and Allison Walker.
Experience all nine new works online here or join us for the live launch at SIGNAL on Thursday 25 November.
