About Tirion
I am a theatrical Costume Maker for theatre film, television, opera and ballet, specialising in Period Cutting. I have a Bachelor degree from NIDA, and I have worked in the Australian arts and entertainment sectors for over 15 years.
I have acquired highly specialised skills and a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and triumphs of working as both a freelancer and full time employee of some of the most prestigious arts companies in this country, including Opera Australia and The Australian Ballet Company. I have held positions from Costume Supervisor for Ensemble theatre and tour wardrobe co-ordinator for Hi-5, to head women's cutter for Victorian Opera.
In recent years my focus has been primarily Master Tailoring, and I am pursuing a condensed Apprenticeship in this area. I also have experience in high-end Bridal/Red Carpet Couture, and I practice the French Embroidery technique of Tambour, using a hooked needle to bead and embroider fabric stretched onto a frame.
What attracted you to the space and what makes your studio suitable for your practice?
The appeal of River studios is in the space and freedom it provides as a practitioner, to spread out and really explore your craft. I use some large, heavy equipment in my work and being able to set it up permanently, rather than packing away after each use is so liberating.
I am an inner west local so the location is ideal and I also look forward to to the sense of community, of belonging in this creative space of like-minded, yet diverse, artists.
