Kate Meakin
About
Kate Meakin is a visual artist who works with sculpture and photography. Her work repurposes cast away or mass-produced materials as aesthetic objects; the resulting forms oscillate between poetic and mundane effects. Often materials are presented in such a way that they come to resemble gestural abstract paintings or sculptures. Her photography practice often manifests through collaborations with local experimental fashion practitioners. She completed a BFA (Hons) in Photography at the VCA in 2014 and is currently researching the language of fashion imaging through a Masters of Design with RMIT University’s school of Fashion and Textiles. Recent exhibitions include On time, 2020, Connors Connors, Spring 1883 Art Fair, with Fires Gallery, 2019 draw nearer to the window, Knulps, 2018, inside voice harvester, Irene Rose Gallery, 2018, Recess presents, Film Screening at Green Papaya Art Projects, Manilla, Phillipines 2017, Howl Sounds Best In a Hole, solo exhibition, Gertrude Contemporary – Studio 3, 2017, Endless Circulation: TarraWarra Biennale, TarraWarra Museum of Art, 2016, The Trouble with Remuneration, West Space, 2016, Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, 2016.
